- Some of Ruth’s memories:

“As a child, I helped my mom clean and started baking at 8-years old.  We lived across from Norberg Manufacturing surrounded by fields.  We didn’t have much, but we had a garden and plenty to eat.  My mother would make me dresses and coats from hand me down clothes.  We played lots of games outside.  We had an outdoor toilet, I would run to it at night.  I worked with mom cleaning chicken for the tavern across the way.  Pay wasn’t much, but we got all the gizzards, hearts, and necks – Sunday was always chicken soup.  Mom also saved the cream from the milk and made ice cream.  We didn’t have toys, so an uncle would find them at the dump and fix them up.  We did a lot of dancing as I got older to Big Bands.  Also worked in our photo store.  We had a great neighborhood, multi-ethnic.  I also worked with mom catering weddings.”
