A faithful and humble servant of God has passed into eternity. Adeline Elizabeth Schoofs, of Kewaskum, who served Christ in her vocation as a wife and mother passed into eternity on Wednesday, December 19th at the age of 90.
Adeline was born the first of two children to the late Henry and Anastasia Laatsch on November 5, 1922, in the town of Farmington. She attended Boltonville Elementary School from which she drew her basic academic education that served her well. On June 1, 1946, she was united in the sacred bond of Holy Matrimony to Theodore Henry Schoofs at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in the town of Kewaskum. With steadfast fidelity and faith she went forth to serve her husband and children amidst the many vicissitudes of farm life that she shared with her husband until the time of their retirement.
Adeline was loved for her meekness, her unassuming humble nature and engaging personality that graced her being. Those who knew her loved her for making the best of what she had in this life. Akin to farm life from her childhood, she loved nature and was gifted in the arts of sewing and crafts that she enjoyed as hobbies. She had time for everyone and lived out her life in the shadow of God’s goodness with a proper fear of the Lord. A longtime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum she found peace and solace in the prayer of the Holy Rosary, weekly Mass attendance and later in the reception of Holy Communion brought to her home. She died as she had lived, with a conviction of Christ’s promise to raise her mortal body on the last day. We now give her back to God, entrusting her soul to His care, who in love gave her first to us along with the great blessing to call her our mother unto eternity.
Adeline is survived by her five children, Mark (Konnie) Schoofs of Germantown, Rita Schoofs and Lyle Schoofs both of Kewaskum, Lee Ann Schoofs of Campbellsport and Caroline (Patrick) Cain of Texhoma, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Jackie (Dean) Pipes, Christopher Schoofs, Angie (John) Stemberg, Clarice and Clayton Cain; two great-grandchildren, Sage Pipes and Jacob Kufeldt-Schoofs; a nephew, three nieces, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore and her beloved sister, Marjorie (Merlin) Degnitz.
Visitation for Adeline was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum on Saturday, December 29, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. A prayer service was held at noon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with Father Edwin Kornath and Father Elroy Pesch O.F.M. Cap. officiating.
The mortal remains of Adeline were reverently laid to rest in the blest grounds of the parish cemetery to await the sound of Gabriel’s mighty trumpet announcing the great day of the Resurrection. Then every tear will be wiped away and the faithful will proclaim the greatness of the Lord who Himself died that we might have eternal life in His glorious company with all His faithful ones.
