Agnes M. Kittel, 94, the owner of the Bar-N-Ranch Hat Bar for 55 years and resident at Libby’s House East in Plymouth for the last several years passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012.
Grandma Aggie, as many called her, was born on December 25th 1917, in Milwaukee, a daughter of the late Ursala and Valentine Yank. Both of her parents came to the USA from Austria three years before her birth. Aggie spent her first nine years of life in an orphanage run by the Carmelite Nuns because her mother became a poor widow before Aggie was born. Her father, Valentine, was killed in a construction accident three months before Aggie’s birth. When she was nine years old her mother was able to afford to take her and her older brother William back home in Milwaukee where she spent the rest of her childhood years.
Aggie married Walter Woyach in Milwaukee in 1936. They moved to several different cities over their younger married years and settled in Mequon, where they operated a grocery store and then moved to the Bar-N-Ranch Hat Bar in the Kettle Moraine in Campbellsport, which Aggie operated with Walter and then continued after his death. She was very proud of her Chicago kids (Boy Scouts) who patronized her for 45 years. They called her their “summer mom”, and in later years helped her with little jobs whenever they would visit!
Aggie then married Elmer Kittel whom she was married to for 35 years until his death three years ago. Aggie always loved the Kettle Moraine. She said it reminded her of her parent’s homeland of Austria. Besides owning a grocery store and the Bar-N-Ranch, Aggie worked for many years as a very talented seamstress at Rhia Manufacturing, Junior House, and Mallard Coach!
Agnes was a member of her little church, St. Matthias, in the town of Auburn and her Lord was very important to her always, and now she is at peace with Him.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Charles) Johnson of Goose Creek, South Carolina; a granddaughter-in-law, Tami Leichtnam, two great-grandchildren; five grandchildren, Steven (Lisa) Robillard, two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; Jackie (Jim) Pottratz, two great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; Kathy (Dale) Baumann, three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; Nancy (Henri) Davis, two great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; Andrew Leichtnam, two great-grandchildren; a step-daughter, Vickie Kittel; a step-granddaughter, Jeannette Kleinhans; a step-grandson, Travis Kleinhans; two step-sons, Gary (Dorothy) Kittel and Dennis (Mary) Kittel; four step-grandchildren, Dennis Kittel Jr., Lesley (Brad) Helgeson, three step-great-grandchildren; Michelle (Steve) Beringer and Stephanie (Kevin) Hillman, a step-great-grandchild, other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Aggie was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Father Edwin Kornath officiated and burial followed in St. Matthias Catholic Cemetery in the town of Auburn.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Aggie’s arrangements.
