Alice A. Best, (nee Buege), age 90, of Big Cedar Lake, passed away Monday February 14, 2005 at St. Joseph's Community Hospital in West Bend.
She was born on December 24, 1914 in Milwaukee to the late Walter and Selma (nee Zipter) Buege. Alice graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School and then attended Prospect Hall, a business school, for two years. On July 16, 1938 she was united in marriage to Arthur H. Best in Dubuque, IA. Together they made their home in Whitefish Bay and spent summers on Big Cedar Lake until moving to the lake in 1970. Arthur preceded her in death on October 26, 2001.
Alice was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Slinger, a member of the volunteer ladies auxiliary at Milwaukee Hospital and later at St. Joseph's Hospital, and a member of the Cedar Lake Yacht Club. She enjoyed sailing, ice boating, fishing, playing bridge, attending plays, and especially traveling. Alice has visited 93 countries including Tim Buck Tu in Mali Africa.
She is survived by two children, Judith (Barry) Dukes of Fond du Lac, and Arthur W. "Bill" (Jacqueline) Best of Big Cedar Lake; Four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Helena) Dukes, Amy (Anthony) Clark, B.J. Best, and Andrew Best; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Austin Clark; Two sisters-in-law Mary Best of Jackson, and Kay Best of West Bend; two nieces, Sue (Russ) Darrow of Big Cedar Lake, and Jane (Tom) Regneir of Orono, MN; A nephew John R. (Patty) Best of Big Cedar Lake; Other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Alice will be held on Friday February 18th at 11:30 a.m. at the Myrhum ~ Patten Funeral Home, West Bend. Pastor Richard Lawrence will officiate and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials to St. Luke Church, Cedar Lake Conservancy, or Cedar Community are appreciated by the family.
