Alice A. Laubenstein, (nee Tews), age 92, of Leona, formerly of Kewaskum, was called home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Aspirus Hospital of Wausau.
She was born on December 19, 1915 in Cedarburg to the late Theodore and Alida (nee Klueber) Tews. Alice was united in marriage to Harold Laubenstein in Cedarburg in 1939. After their marriage, Alice assisted her husband in the operation of the Laubenstein Funeral Home in Cedarburg until they purchased Lighthouse Lanes Bowling Alley in West Bend. Alice also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend, she was a secretary at DeSoto Chemical in Fredonia, and she aided in home care for persons with disabilities. Alice was an instrumental founder of the ARC Association for Retarded Citizens of Washington County, and was a board member of the CCSA Comprehensive Community Services Association of Washington County for over 25 years. In her spare time, Alice enjoyed volunteering at the Threshold in West Bend and received a Norman Schowalter Service Award in appreciation for her long term commitment toward advancing the Threshold. She was a member of Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend.
Alice is survived by her two children, James Laubenstein of West Bend, and Dr. Karen (Eugene) Beimborn of Leona; three grandchildren, Jon (Michelle) Beimborn of Sussex, Kristin (Mike) Rheingans of Appleton, and Jamie (Lisa) Beimborn of Appleton; six great-grandchildren, Taylor and Alexandra Beimborn of Sussex, Matt and Katie Rheingans of Appleton, and Nateah and Alaina Beimborn of Appleton. She is further survived by a sister, Ruth (Paul) Rathke of Cedarburg; two sisters-in-law, Esther Laubenstein of Newburg, and Myrtle Laubenstein of West Bend; a brother-in-law, Leonard Laubenstein of Arizona; and many other close relatives and dear friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Laubenstein; her infant son, Gerold; her parents, Theodore and Alida Tews; her brother, Frederick and Cora Tews; her parents-in-law, George and Frieda Laubenstein; her sister-in-law, Norma Laubenstein; and her two brothers-in-law, Adolph and Elmer Laubenstein.
A funeral service in honor of Alice will be held on Saturday August 9, at 11:00am, at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend. Rev. Robert Hein will officiate and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation with family and friends will be at the church only on Saturday, from 9:00am until the time of service at 11:00am.
