Aloys J. Schladweiler, 87, of the town of Sherman, was called home to the Lord and reunited with his beloved wife and dancing partner on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at his residence.
He was born on June 20, 1917 at the family homestead in New Fane to the late Jacob and Elizabeth (nee Schneider) Schladweiler. On November 6, 1943 he was united in marriage to the late Naomi LeFever.
During World War II, Aloys enlisted in the United States Army as a mechanic and was honored to have been able to fix General Patton's Jeep while over seas. Throughout his six years in the service he was stationed at several different locations including Germany, France, and England. He was also on the beach of Normandy during the D-Day invasion. When he returned from the service he became a life long member of the Fred A. Schaefer VFW Post #1393 in West Bend.
He started working for the West Bend Company making five cents an hour. He later worked for his brother-in-law at Risse Implement in Silver Creek before starting Schladweiler Repair, which he operated for 30 years.
Faith was very important to Aloys; he was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Kohler.
He is survived by two children, Lonna (Fritz) Karnitz of Newburg and Randy (Debbie) Schladweiler of Hingham; four grandchildren, Tonya (fiancAC. Mark Steinmetz) Kohn, Ryan (fiancAC.e Jill Karoses) Kohn, Ross and Megan Schladweiler, Kassy and Kyle Karnitz; two great-grandchildren, Jesse and Paige; two sisters Ione Kohlman of West Bend and Estelle (Ralph) Matenaer of Kewaskum; a brother, Arnold Schladweiler of St. Michaels; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Mildred Wolf, Marcella Schmidt, Bernice Van Beek, Delores Van Beek, and Viola Schoenbeck, and two brothers, Leroy and Clemens Schladweiler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in Fredonia. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Cemetery in Silver Creek.
