Anne Benzel, (nee Stipanovic), age 91, of Mayville, passed away Saturday March 28, 2015 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born on July 12, 1923 in Mayville to the late Peter and Donica (nee Radovich) Stipanovic, and was united in marriage to Carl Benzel on October 4, 1941 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mayville.
Anne was a lifetime active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the church Rachel Circle in Mayville. She was also a long time member of the Mayville City Hall Election Committee. As a stay at home mom, Anne excelled at caring for her family. She kept an immaculate home and was a great cook. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, and puzzles, loved traveling on family vacations and her trips to Europe.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Margolis of Lake Zurich, IL, and Carla (William Westerhausen) Benzel of Mayville; two grandchildren, Keith (Rachel) Christian of Horicon, and Brittany Margolis of Lake Zurich, IL; three great-grandchildren, Brett, Chelsea, and Adam Christian; a sister, Mildred "Millie" Chapman of Watertown; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Stipanovic of Mayville; mom's dear friend, Arlene "Schutzie" Sprenger of Mayville, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Donica; Husband, Carl in 2008; granddaughter, Wendy Christian; sister, Donica "Dolly" Belligan; along with two brothers, Danny Stipanovic, and Nick "Ozzie" Stipanovic.
Funeral services in remembrance of Anne will be held on Wednesday April 1st at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (16 S. Walnut St.) Mayville. Rev. Barry Hoerz and Chaplin Jim Wehrheim will co-officiate. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Mayville. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service. Memorials to the family are appreciated.
