Antoinette C. "Toni" Powers, (nee Johnson) of West Bend, passed away Thursday January 9, 2014 at Cedar Lake Health & Rehabilitation Center in West Bend.
Toni was born in Baraboo to the late Otto and Mayme (nee Rote) Johnson. She graduated from Baraboo High School and earned a degree in Education from Whitewater State Teachers College. After graduation she briefly worked in Washington D.C., and then taught in the Ladysmith and Madison School Districts. On June 19, 1948 Toni was united in marriage to Donald Powers in Baraboo. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to West Bend.
Toni spent many years teaching typing and shorthand at West Bend High School. She and Donald enjoyed West Bend Bridge Club and Dance Club, and also traveling all over the world to experience different cultures. Donald preceded her in death in 1982.
She is survived by her son, Brad (Gail) Powers of West Bend; a nephew, Rudy Bushcott and his family of Fort Atkinson; along with her student exchange son, Carl-Henrik (Marianne) Borg from Sweden; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services in remembrance of Toni will be held on Sunday January 12th at 2:00 pm at Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church (323 S. 5th Ave.) West Bend. Rev. Jeremy Deaner will officiate. Visitation will be at the church Sunday from 1:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo on Monday at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church are appreciated.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of both Friendship House and Timber Cove at Cedar Community for their loving care extended to Toni.
