Arlene L. Schmidt, 92, of Kewaskum, formerly of West Bend, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center in the town of West Bend.
She was born on November 1, 1916, in the town of Wayne, the daughter of the late Armand and Alma (Menger) Mertz, and on April 10, 1937, she was united in marriage to Theodore E. Schmidt in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1987.
Arlene worked as a cook at Cedar Lake Home for 16 years. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in the town of Wayne, the Women’s Guild and sang in the choir for over 50 years. Arlene will fondly be remembered as an excellent cook, seamstress and quilt maker.
Survivors include five children, Richard (Marjorie) Schmidt, Thomas (Judith) Schmidt and James (Gwen) Schmidt all of the town of Wayne, Susanne (Donald) Felix and Marianne (Roland) Nowak both of West Bend, nine grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Arlene was preceded in death by a brother, Armand “Wimpy” Mertz and a sister, Anita Mertz.
Funeral services for Arlene were held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009, at Salem United Church of Christ, 8925 County Road W, in the town of Wayne with Rev. Daniel Schultz officiating. Burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery in Kewaskum.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Salem U.C.C. were appreciated.
