Arline M. Luft (nee Wilkens), age 88, of the town of Trenton, passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at the Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk.
She was born on August 21, 1921, to the late Otto and Augusta (nee Nitzsche) Wilkens. Arline was the first girl born on the Wilkens family homestead farm in the town of Farmington which was founded in 1849.
She attended grade school at St. John's School in Newburg. Arline worked at Amity before she married Waldemar Luft on August 18, 1945 at St. John's Ev. Luther Church in Newburg. They began farming in 1945 and was the fourth generation to farm the Luft family homestead, which they did until retiring in 1983. Waldemar preceded Arline in death on December 21, 1996.
She was a life member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid in Newburg. Arline enjoyed flowers and gardening.
She is survived by her three sons, Wayne (Linda) Luft of the town of Fredonia, Calvin (Nola) Luft of the town of West Bend and Keith (Ruth) Luft of the town of Fredonia; eight grandchildren, Cindy (Russ) Horning, Tim (Amy) Luft, Becky Luft, Rob Luft, Jonathon Luft, David Luft, Stephanie Luft and Jim Luft; three great-grandsons, Justin Luft, Peter Luft and Dylan Horning; one sister, Leona Scheunemann of West Bend; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Luft of Waubeka, Adeline Wilkens of West Bend and Esther Wilkens of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
Arline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Waldemar; and two brothers, Elmer and Art Wilkens.
A funeral service in remembrance of Arline will be held on Thursday, August 5th at 5:00 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Newburg. Rev. Jon Baumann will officiate and burial will follow in St. John's Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
