Armand P. “Wimpy” Mertz, 88, of the town of Wayne, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Ivy Manor in Campbellsport.
He was born on June 12, 1918, in the town of Wayne, the son of the late Armand and Alma (Menger) Mertz, Sr. and on June 3, 1944, he was united in marriage to Marian Flueckinger at the Salem church in the town of Wayne. His wife preceded him in death on April 25, 1964. On September 27, 1969, he was united in marriage to Flora Krug in Fond du Lac, and she preceded him in death in 1995.
Wimpy was a lifelong farmer in the town of Wayne. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in the town of Wayne, the Barber Shop Chorus in West Bend for many years and a member of the Campbellsport Ecumenical Choir. Wimpy enjoyed playing cards, bowling, dart ball and fishing. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Survivors include five children, Gerald (Mary) Mertz of Kewaskum, William (Mary Ellen) Mertz of Carol Stream, Illinois, Roger (Kathy) Mertz of the town of Wayne, Robert Mertz of Slinger and Kathleen Mertz (Russ McElrone) of Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Julie (Chris) Wenninger, Daniel, Brian, Anne, David, Paul, Carolyn and Amy Mertz; two great-grandsons, Jordan Bolivar and Simon Wenninger; three stepchildren, Jim (Karen) Krug of Fond du Lac, Jerry (Joan) Krug of the town of West Bend and Sue (Leroy) Bauer of West Bend; a sister, Arlene Schmidt of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ley of Madison; a stepdaughter-in-law, Arla Krug of Fond du Lac, seven step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Wimpy was preceded in death by a son, David Mertz; a grandson, Steven Mertz; a sister, Anita Mertz; two brothers-in-law, Ted Schmidt and Ralph Ley and a stepson, Bob Krug.
Funeral services for Wimpy were held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at Salem United Church of Christ, 8925 County Road W, Campbellsport (town of Wayne). Rev. Dan Schultz officiated and burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the church cemetery.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services.
