August F. "Augie" Bilgo

June 22, 1929 — October 20, 2012

August F. “Augie” Bilgo, 83, of Kewaskum, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at his home with his loving family at his side.


He was born on June 22, 1929, in the family home in Kewaskum, the son of the late August C. and Esther (Belger) Bilgo, and on July 18, 1953, he was united in marriage to Verla Schloemer at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend.


Augie was a 1947 graduate of Kewaskum High School. He honorably served and was an active member of the Kewaskum Fire Department from November 1, 1951, until retiring on December 1, 1985. He served as fire chief from 1975 until 1985. During his tenure as chief, Augie supervised the construction of the fire department building at it’s current location.


He was employed by the Village of Kewaskum for 16 years, retiring as superintendent of Public Works in 1991. Augie was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Campbellsport.


Those Augie leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 59 years, Verla; four children, Debbie (Mike) Doherty of Kewaskum, Doug (Mary) Bilgo of Campbellsport, Jim (Anne) Bilgo of Howards Grove and Sherry (Scott) Thelen of Kewaskum; 11 grandchildren, Nicole (Scott), Damien, Austin, Kim (Tedi), Whitney (fiancé, Alex), Danielle, Tyler, Riley, Rachel, Paige (fiancé, Josh) and Jade; two great-grandchildren, Emmerson and Beckham, other relatives and many friends.


In addition to his parents, Augie was preceded in death by his brother, Roger (Barbara) Bilgo.


Funeral services for Augie were held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Campbellsport. Rev. Paul Cerny officiated and burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum.

Relatives and friends called at the church on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time services. Current and retired members of the Kewaskum Fire Department had an honorary walk through at 6:00 p.m.


Memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church were appreciated.


The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Augie’s arrangements.
