Barbara C. Ertl, 93, of West Bend, formerly of St. Kilian, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at Cedar Lake Health Care Center in the town of West Bend.
She was born on November 9, 1915, in the town of LeRoy, the daughter of the late Martin and Rosa (Schweida) Eilbes, and on April 10, 1934, she was united in marriage to Philip Ertl in LeRoy. Her husband preceded her in death on October 13, 1988.
Barbara was a member of St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian. For a period of time she was employed by the Dinner Bell Restaurant. She loved to cook and spending time with her grandchildren. She will fondly be remembered for her great apple pies and for the beautiful flowers she provided for church. One of Barbara’s favorite pastimes was listening to polka music.
Those Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory include nine children, Wilbert (Marcella) Ertl and Raymond (Beverly) Ertl both of West Bend, Andrew (Rita) Ertl of Sheboygan, Charles (Elaine) Ertl of West Bend, David (Gabriel) Ertl of Fond du Lac, Barbara (Robert) Umbaugh of Caldwell, Idaho, Thomas (Linda) Ertl of Campbellsport, Mary (William) Kissinger of West Bend and Joseph (Barbara) Ertl of Goodyear, Arizona; a brother, Alois (Kathryn) Eilbes of Cedarburg; 31 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a son, Alois; a grandson, Jeffrey Ertl; three sisters, Rose (Art) Weiland, Lucy (Ferdy) Weiland and Marie (Melvin) Garriety and two brothers, Henry (Anna) and Peter (Lucille) Eilbes.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara was held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009, at St. Kilian Catholic Church, N189 County Road W in St. Kilian (town of Ashford). Father Neil Zinthefer officiated and burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
Barbara’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, to the wonderful nurses at Cedar Lake Health Care Center and to the staff of Hawthorn Manor for the loving care she received.
