Barbara Heimann Kuhn, born into this world June 18th, 1931, was received into God's care September 19th, 2011.
A native of Chilton, Wisconsin, Barbara graduated from Chilton High School in 1949, later earning a BS degree in Education from Cardinal Stritch College and an MA degree in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After teaching for several years, Barbara married Allen Kuhn in 1963, also a native of Chilton. Together they settled in Brookfield, building a home where they lived for 43 years, raising three children, and later cherishing many visits from their eight grandchildren. When her own children were all in grade school, Barbara returned to serving students with special needs as a substitute teacher. She was also an active lay leader in her parish of many years, Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Menominee Falls, and later a faithful member of St. Ben's Catholic Church in Milwaukee. After retiring from teaching, Barbara took an interest in theological study and enrolled in several Scripture courses at St. Francis Seminary. She used this education to lead Bible studies for the developmentally disabled men of Hartfel House and to guide her training of lay liturgists. Also in retirement, Barbara enjoyed many years of traveling and learning with Allen as they participated in Elder Hostels and other adventures.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Allen, her three children Elizabeth (Thomas) Wank of Twin Lakes, WI, Louise (Daniel) Hubert of Indonesia, Karl (Kathryn) Kuhn of Kiel, WI, sisters Mary Francis Heimann OSF of Milwaukee, Eloise Heimann of Milwaukee, eight grandchildren, Anya, Samuel and Alexander Wank, Benjamin, Noah and Daniel Hubert, Joshua and Clare Kuhn, and many other dear relatives and friends.
Barbara, Allen and their children are grateful for the wonderful care Barbara received from the aides, chaplains, nurses and hospice staff of Cedar Community, West Bend, during her struggle with Alzheimer's disease. They are also grateful for the many visits and prayers from devoted friends and clergy. Such overtures of care and concern were constant reminders of the power of God's love, the presence of Christ's grace, and the promise of new life where darkness and death will be no more.
A memorial service in remembrance of Barbara will be held on Monday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Myrhum - Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington Street, West Bend with Brother Jerry Schroeder of St. Ben's Catholic Church, Milwaukee officiating. Visitation will be Monday at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will take place in Hillside Cemetery in Chilton.
