Barbara K. Schmidt, 60, of Kewaskum, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee Hospital.
She was born on August 22, 1947, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of the late August “Augie” and Beulah (Schaub) Koch, and on March 23, 1968, she was united in marriage to Lee Schmidt at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum.
Barb worked as a dental hygienist for many years for Dr. John Koehler in West Bend and later for Dr. Rauwerdink, until her illness. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum.
Barb believed in tradition and her favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved decorating and had decorations for every holiday. She also made many crafts, collected teddy bears and had a passion for flower gardening. Barb’s grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Barb was a shining light for her family and friends. Even during her battle with cancer she remained optimistic and courageous. She fought her illness with remarkable strength. She will be deeply missed by her husband, her family and by all who knew her.
Survivors include her loving husband, Lee; two children, Jill (Mike) Semerad of West Bend and Chad (Elizabeth) Schmidt of Los Alamos, New Mexico; two grandsons, Spencer and Parker Semerad; a brother, A. Terry (Mae) Koch of Kewaskum, nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends and her canine companion, Teddy.
A funeral service for Barb will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2007, at Peace United Church of Christ, 343 First Street, Kewaskum. Rev. Eric Kirkegaard will officiate and burial will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the church cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services.
