Bernadine "Bernie" Pruett, nee Brockman, 77, of West Bend, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2007 at her residence surrounded by her family after a lengthy struggle with cancer.
She was born on December 3, 1929 in Plymouth to the late Clarence and Linda (nee Krueger) Brockman. Bernie was raised in Appleton and helped her parents at the family's Clover Farm Grocery Store. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1947 and then worked at the First National Bank in Appleton.
On April 4, 1953 she was united in marriage to Richard Pruett at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Appleton. They moved to West Bend in 1960 to raise their family. Bernie was employed at Moraine Park Technical College and The Threshold in West Bend. She was then employed at Milwaukee NC Machining in Fredonia for several years and in the mid '80s she began working at the family business, Pruett's Floor Covering, where she continued working through 2004.
Bernie was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, West Bend, where she was involved in the Senior Choir, the Prayer Chain, and various women's groups. She was also a member of several chorus groups in the Appleton area.
She enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing Bridge, and special moments while fishing. Her passion was spending time with family and friends and she always enjoyed a good laugh. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren's activities and her family's involvement at church.
She is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick"; five children, Tim (Donna Techel) Pruett of Slinger, Jodi (Frank) Micale of Neenah, Maurie (David) Osgood of West Bend, Todd (Patrice) Pruett of West Bend, and Jay Pruett of West Bend; ten grandchildren, Ryan (FiancAC.e Rachel Weyenberg) Micale, Calli Micale, Melissa Micale, Andrea Osgood, Lindsey Osgood, Tanner Pruett, Trevor Pruett, Turner Pruett, Brandon Spaeth, and Krystal Pruett; a brother, Clarence (Helen) Brockman of Hershey, Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Margaret (James) Rudolf of Appleton; a brother-in-law, William (Sid) Pruett of Kenosha; her very dear friend, Char (Robert) Zarling of Kewaskum; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Joan Pruett, and two brothers-in-law, Charles Pruett and James Pruett.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1044 Silverbrook Dr., West Bend. Rev. Oscar Kraft will officiate and entombment will follow at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
