Bernice G. Hron, nee Gruhle, 92 of West Bend, passed away on Sat. Nov. 5, 2005 at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center, West Bend.
She was born on May 25, 1913 on the family homestead farm in the town of Farmington to the late Willard and Olga (nee Meueschke) Gruhle. She was united in marriage to Woodrow Hron in June 1939 at her family's homestead. Her husband preceded her in death in 1972.
Prior to her marriage, Bernice taught at the Fillmore Elementary School. She stayed home while her children were young and then went back into teaching in 1957 and taught at the Cheeseville School for two years. She then taught at Silver Maple School and Barton Elementary School in West Bend where she was a reading specialist for many years until her retirement.
Bernice was a lifetime member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the West Bend Retired Teachers Assoc. and the Wis. State Reading Association. She was a volunteer with many groups including the Washington County Historical Society and the Full Shelf Food Pantry in West Bend and she also stayed active as an avid game player.
She is survived by four children, Judith Uelmen of West Bend, Susan (John) Hron-Gill of Portland, OR, W. Theodore (Maureen) Hron of Merrimac, and Marti (Col. Mark) Hron-Davis of Alexandria, VA; eight grandchildren, Rachael Krueger, Peter (Robynn) Krueger, Sarah (Sean) Coste, Elizabeth (Charlie) Parks, Tom Uelmen, Tim Uelmen, Jennifer Hron, and Brian Hron; eight great-grandchildren, Kathryn Krueger, Jennifer Krueger, Madelyn Krueger, Michael Coste, Isaiah Coste, Cade Coste, Margaret Parks, and Andrew Parks; two sisters, Elda Gerner of Hayward, and Una (Earl) Becker of Waukesha; a brother, Willard (Ruth) Gruhle of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Krueger.
Funeral services will be held on Wed. Nov. 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Myrhum - Patten Funeral Home, West Bend. Rev. Mary Davies will officiate and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wed. from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
