Bernice M. Manteufel,(nee Kind), 89, of West Bend, found peace on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, West Bend.
She was born on March 21, 1927 to the late Arthur and Albina (nee Witt) Kind in Larrabee, WI. She graduated from Mishicot High School and went on to complete her education at the Wisconsin College of Cosmetology in Green Bay. Following graduation, she worked at beauty shops in Two Rivers and Menomonee Falls. On May 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Lyle Manteufel. Together with her husband of more than 50 years, she worked side by side with him in the family owned Maribel Dairy, specializing in cheese making. Bernice also for many years spent long days working at the family concession stand at State Fair in the dairy building. Later in life she worked in retail sales at jewelry stores in Menomonee Falls and West Bend.
Bernice loved ceramics, watching the Brewers, planting flowers, canning, crocheting afghans, and volunteering at church. She loved family vacations and just jumping in the car and going for a ride to see the sites. Most of all she loved baking holiday cookies, snack mix, and candy to share with family and friends.
People knew her as Bernie, but also as mom, grandma, or Chief. She was loved for being kind and caring. The little things she did to create lasting memories and of course her unique sense of humor will be missed by all.
Those Bernice leaves behind to cherish her memory include her two daughters Gail (Thomas) Bartelt and Jody Buttke; three grandchildren, Charles (Kristin) Bartelt, Corey Bartelt, and Dean (Cassandra) Buttke; three great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Katelyn, and Jacob Bartelt; other relatives and friends.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
The Myrhum Patten Miller & Kietzer Funeral Homes have been entrusted with Bernice’s arrangements. Additional information and guest book may be found at www.myrhum-patten.com
