Bettie M. Schmidt, nee Mosterdt, 82, of West Bend, WI, went to Heaven on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.
She was born on May 18, 1930 in Inwood, Iowa to the late Gerrit and Elsie (nee Van Westerhuyzen) Mosterdt. Bettie was an independent "career woman" long before the term existed. She owned and operated several stores including Bettie's Tots to Teens and Bettie's Fashions in Pipestone, MN and Nutrition Center in Berlin, WI. She loved knitting and she enjoyed making all of the items even more than everyone enjoyed wearing what Grandma Bettie made for them.
Bettie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Corliss Kazemba and Debra Buck, both of West Bend, WI; three grandchildren, Hallie (Christopher) Olson of Fischers, IN, Travis (Mary Baker) Buck of Fischers, IN, and Taylor Kazemba of Port Washington, WI; three sisters, Daisy Flicek of St. Paul, MN, Gladys Christenson of St. Paul, MN, and Beverly Dossett of Marion, SD; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Ronald Buck and Weston Kazemba, and her special friend, Frances Hinricks.
A memorial service in remembrance of Bettie will be held on Monday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the Myrhum - Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington St., West Bend, with Rev. David Kellerman of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church officiating. The family will greet visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service and following the service a reception will be held at Debra Buck's home.
The family thanks Bettie's special caregivers, Lisa Perkins, Malissa Badzinski, and Sharon Olson, and the staff of Horizon Hospice for their wonderful care.
Memorials to the Columbia St. Mary's Foundation are appreciated.
