Betty Lou Lemke

Betty Lou Lemke, (nee McDonald), age 76, of Newburg, passed away on Sunday, July 22 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 9, 1931 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Garry and Vera (nee Moore) McDonald. Following her high school graduation, Betty attended Michigan State University where she graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration.

She was united in marriage to Cassius Lemke on June 13, 1953 in Detroit Michigan and began working for Hardware Mutual in Michigan as an office manager. A short time later, she left Hardware Mutual to start a family. During that time she helped her husband begin and operate Cheboygan Floral greenhouse and flower shop in Cheboygan Michigan. After her children were older, Betty began working with her husband on the road selling greenhouses. Betty and Cassius enjoyed many trips across the mid-west together while doing this.

Following their retirement they enjoyed many trips to various locations around the world. They especially loved traveling to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Betty loved her dogs, and will be remembered as a woman with a big heart who could always make anyone smile. She was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Newburg.

Betty is survived by her husband, Cassius of Newburg; her two daughters, Cheryl (David) Schultz of St. Killian, and Kathryn Lemke of Newburg; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She is further survived by the Visser family, and many other dear relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Karen Miller; and her two sisters, Patricia and Jean.

A memorial service in honor of Betty will be held on Wednesday, July 25, at 2:00 pm, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Newburg. Rev. Jon Baumann will officiate and burial will follow in St. John's Church Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday at the church from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm.
