Betty Mae L. Mertzig, 69, of Kewaskum, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum.
She was born on July 10, 1940, in Kewaskum, the daughter of the late Christopher J. and Leona (Rosenbaum) Kober, and on November 11, 1961, she was united in marriage to Raymond “Ray” Mertzig at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum. Ray preceded Betty Mae in death on March 17, 2008.
Betty Mae was employed by Regal Ware, Inc. in Kewaskum and later was employed by the Kewaskum School District, working in the high school office. She retired in 2001 after 28 years of services. She was a member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum.
Betty Mae was an accomplished seamstress who loved to sew. Some of the items she made were bridesmaid’s dresses, costumes, and curtains. She always had a garden and will fondly be remembered for the enjoyment she received from taking her grandchildren places, bird watching, cross-country skiing, jump roping - doing 1,000 jumps a day and bowling. She bowled for nearly 50 years. Betty Mae will be deeply missed by her family and by all whose lives she touched.
Those Betty Mae leaves behind to cherish her memory include two children, John (Tina) Mertzig of Kewaskum and Rhonda (Timothy) Zimdahl of Campbellsport; a brother, William (Beverly) Kober of Kewaskum; a sister, Bernice (Norman) Krueger of West Bend; a brother-in-law, Dave (Helen) Mertzig of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Roseann (Donald) Clark of West Bend; five grandchildren, Sarah (Erik) Peterson, Wendy (Jereme) Jaeger, Angel Zimdahl, Faith Mertzig and Raymond Mertzig; three great-grandchildren, Liam Peterson, Lucas Peterson and Aydrienne Jaeger, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Betty Mae was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Julie Zimdahl.
Funeral services for Betty Mae were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1417 Parkview Drive in Kewaskum. Rev. Troy Swenson officiated and burial followed in Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum.
Relatives and friends called on Monday at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
