Byron W. Gessner, 82, of the Town of Scott, died peacefully Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Cedar Lake Community, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on August 8, 1927, in Fredonia, son of the late Julius and Viola (Schiltz) Gessner. Byron graduated from Random Lake High School in 1945. On February 25, 1948, he married Rosella Dobke. She passed away July 15, 1986. He married Margareta Jahn on February 14, 1987. He was a member of United Christian Church in Campbellsport.
He worked for J.C. Penney, Gehl’s, and Mallard Coach. He also farmed his entire life.
He was the Assessor for the Town of Scott, served on the Kewaskum School Board, President of Beechwood School Board, McKinley School Board, Treasurer for the New Fane Kettle Riders, Financial Secretary and President for St. John’s United Church of Christ Beechwood, Honorary member of Beechwood Fire Department, also served as treasurer, and Federal Crop Insurance Adjustor. He loved playing Skat.
Byron is survived by his wife, Margareta; three sons, Byron J. (Sharon), Larry (Rosemarie) and Leslie (Amy) all of Beechwood; four stepchildren, Jeffrey Schroer, Linda (Steve) Anderson, Christi (Charles) Larson, Michael Schroer; six grandchildren, Randy (Christina) Gessner, Danny (Rebecca) Gessner, Wendy (William Galligan) Gessner, Lisa (Adam) Stoffel, Craig Gessner, Amanda Gessner; eight step-grandchildren, Chantal and Brandon Schroer, Jennifer (Justin) Stark, Jason Anderson, David Korn, Matthew Hammen, Megan (Kevin) Kusnick, Melissa Hammen; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler and Cheyenne Gessner, Clayton and Mackenzee Gessner, Sierra and Austin Gessner, Mason and Ella Stoffel and a step-great-grandchild, Dylan Korn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rosella; a daughter-in-law, Cindy; a grandson, Tracy and a granddaughter, Megan.
Visitation was at United Christian Church, 228 Forest, Campbellsport on Saturday, March 27, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and a memorial service followed at 3:00 p.m.
