Carmen V. Backhaus, (nee Mittelstadt), age 70, of West Bend, passed away on Thursday August 3, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital SynergyHealth in the Town of Polk.
She was born on December 30, 1935 in Hartford to the late Harold and Mary (nee Fasbender) Mittelstadt. Carmen graduated from Hartford Union High School in the class of 1953. She lived in Kewaskum for before moving to West Bend in 1975.
Carmen worked as a Bus Operator for the Milwaukee County Transit System for many years until retiring in 1996. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and playing sheepshead.
She is survived by three sons, Terry (Dianna) Backhaus of Sulfur, LA, Kim (Cindy) Backhaus of Kewaskum, and Kurt Backhaus of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Brian, Annie, Elizabeth, Melissa, Kristy, Jessie, and Jackilyn; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Mittelstadt of Hartford, and Stella Mittelstadt of Las Vegas, NV; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Ann Mittelstadt and Delores Amerell; along with two brothers Floyd and Orval Mittelstadt.
A Memorial service to celebrate Carmen's life will be held on Monday, August 14, 2006 at 3:00 pm at the Myrhum ~ Patten Funeral Home, West Bend. Rev. John Bass will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 pm until the time of service. Cremation took place at Myrhum ~ Patten Funeral & Cremation Service and burial of Carmen's cremated remains will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.
