Carol Clement, 85, found peace on Tuesday morning June 3, 2014 at the Cedar Lake Health and Rehab Center.
Carol was born in Minneapolis, MN on February 27, 1929 to the late Robert and Edith (nee Buckett) Cooper. She graduated from South West High School and attended the University of Minnesota where she received her teaching degree. She taught elementary school in Virginia MN for several years. On June 20, 1953 she was united in marriage to Donald Clement at the Wesleyan Foundation, U of MN. They moved to West Bend, became life-long members of the Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, raised 3 children and enjoyed cherished friendships with many. On June 20, 2013 they celebrated their 60th year of marriage.
Carol's love of travel and the outdoors began at a very young age with family camping trips to Lake Itasca and a cross country trip by car to the California coast at age two. Her love of adventure took Carol and Don on trips to China, Tibet, the Galapagos Islands, Australia, New Zealand, all over Europe, Central and North America. They shared their passion for travel with their family, often taking their children and grandchildren with them on their trips. One of Carol's favorite places to visit was Disney World which she visited 18 times. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and a charter member of the West Bend Chapter of AAUW. She enjoyed walking, playing bridge, Culver's cheeseburgers, and time spent with friends, especially their "Supper Club" friends. Carol was a devoted wife and mother, always ready with a kind word and a happy smile. She will be dearly missed.
Carol is survived by her husband, Donald Clement; three children, Nancy (Mark) Dolenshek of Wausau, Sally Schmidt of West Bend, and Robert (Jane Norton) of Edinburgh, Scotland; four grandchildren, William and Emma Dolenshek, and Christine and Peter Schmidt; brother, Robert (Agnes "Nessie") Cooper; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sons Charles and John and son-in-law Matthew Schmidt.
A Memorial service in remembrance of Carol will be held on Friday June 20th at 3:00 pm at 5th Ave United Methodist Church of West Bend. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of service. The family requests that memorials be made to the Courtyard at the Cottages at Cedar Run through the Cedar Community Foundation, Inc. (113 Cedar Ridge Drive, West Bend, WI 53095-9902) .
