Carol R. (Yahr) Gerner

December 2, 1925 — March 8, 2020

Carol Ruth. Gerner (nee Yahr), 94, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 in West Bend, WI.

Carol was born on December 2, 1925, in West Bend, the second of four children born to Leonard and Ruth (nee Miller) Yahr.  Carol graduated from West Bend High School in 1943.  She graduated from the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1947.

On June 21, 1947 Carol married high school classmate John Gerner, a high school classmate with whom she corresponded during  after he returned from World War II, on June 21, 1947.  Her primary focus, along with her husband John, became raising their family of five children.  Carol enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church; from baptism to confirmation and was active in the Women’s Guild, leading the efforts of the well-known cook book, “Our Favorite Recipes”, and the annual Apple Kuchen sale.

Carol enjoyed winter ski trips in Colorado, spring trips to Ft Myers Beach, summer vacations in northern Wisconsin, tennis with friends, and was an avid bridge player.  Carol and John enjoyed domestic and foreign travel as well as socializing with their many friends throughout their 64 years of marriage.   John passed away in October of 2011.

Carol will long be remembered by her family as the world’s best mother, for her Carol’s loving, caring and nurturing ways, her willingness to give of herself to others, her hard work and can-do attitude, and as were a remarkable role model for everyone she interacted with.racted with.

Carols surviving family includes include her five children, John (Karen) Gerner, Douglas  (Diane) Gerner, Michaelke (Claudia) Gerner, Jean (Dan) Daley, and Terry (Elizabeth) Gerner; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom (Lori) Yahr; threetwo sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Yahr, and Audrey Yahr and Lori Yahr; and many nieces, and nephews., other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Gerner and two brothers, Fred YahrFred Yahr and Allen Yahr.

A Funeral service will be held in mid-April. Full-service details coming soon.

Memorials in Carol’s name to St. John’s Lutheran Church or School are appreciated by the family.
