Carroll Meserve Martin Jr

August 12, 1926 — March 20, 2015

Carroll Meserve Martin Jr., 88, recently of Cedar Bay West, passed away on Friday, March 20th at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls surrounded by family.

He was born on August 12, 1926, in Malden, Massachusetts to Louise (West) and Carroll Martin, Sr.

Carroll graduated from Melrose High School in Melrose, Massachusetts in 1944. He enlisted in the US Navy in January 1945, and served his country until July 1946, when he was honorably discharged.

He married Shirley Mahnke on July 31, 1946 in Manitowoc and together they had 5 children. He worked for the City of Manitowoc, Department of Public Works from 1949 until 1987, as the Assistant Superintendent of Public Works and Weed Commissioner.

He and Shirley raised their children in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and when they retired moved to New Mexico. After 27 years in New Mexico, they decided to move back to Wisconsin to be closer to their children.

Carroll was a lifetime member of VFW Post #659, Manitowoc. He was also active in Masonic lodges: #18 Manitowoc, Hondo Lodge #74, York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Ballut Abyad Shrine in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Shrine Club and Patrol, and Felix #29 in Hagerman, New Mexico.

He is survived by his children: Sandy (Pete) Entringer of Minocqua, Bonnie (John) Skadahl of West Bend, Terry (Bruce) Larson of Bothell, Washington, Bob (Mary) Martin of Beaver Dam, and Gail (Bob) Heidt of Cuyhoga Falls, Ohio; his grandchildren: Cindy (Borje) Olsson, Craig (Jodie) Skadahl, Elizabeth Larson, Nicholas (Shelia) Martin, Brian Martin, Joel Martin, Michael DeMaria, and Danny DeMaria; his great-grandchildren: Nicole Olsson, Madeleine Olsson, Kat Skadahl, Zoe Skadahl, Cody Skadahl, Sienna Martin, Robbie Martin, and Jax Fowler.

Carroll is predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Shirley, his sister Susan Martin and his great-granddaughter Jenny Olsson.

Private funeral services will be handled by Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home. Special thanks to the staff at Felician Village in Manitowoc and Cedar Bay West in West Bend, the nursing staff at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonie Falls and Cindy, the hospice liaison for Horizon Hospice.
