Catherine D. Hawig, 92, of the town of Wayne, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2008, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in St. Kilian, the daughter of the late Jacob and Anna M. (Peter) Felix, and on September 12, 1939, she was united in marriage to Edward J. Hawig at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian. Her husband preceded her in death on May 13, 2008.
The couple farmed in the town of Wayne for many years. Catherine was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum and always enjoyed a good game of sheepshead. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who knew her.
Survivors include five children, RoseMary (Ray) Ruplinger and Patricia Hawig both of the town of Wayne, Kathleen (Karl) Kannenberg of West Bend, Gerald Hawig and Jim (Kathy) Hawig both of the town of Wayne; a sister-in-law, Verna Herriges of West Bend; 16 grandchildren, Fran (Doreen) Ruplinger, Ed (Mary) Ruplinger, Andy (Rose) Ruplinger, Tony (Joan) Ruplinger, Gina (Roger) Duley, Brian (Deb) Ruplinger, Pat (Shelly) Ruplinger, Mike (Mitchele) Ruplinger, Steve (Connie) Kannenberg, Tom Kannenberg, Jeff (Alyson) Kannenberg, Mark Kannenberg, Joe Hawig (special friend, Naomi “Anda” Klemp), Jeremy Hawig (fiancée, Lindsey Repinski), Joshua Hawig and Jonathan Hawig, 31 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Catherine was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Sarah Ruplinger; five brothers, Kilian (her twin brother), John (Verona), Frank (Helen), Leo (Lydia) and Alphonse Felix; four sisters, Elizabeth Felix, Mary (Norbert) Heiting, Rose Felix and Anna (Gilbert) Reindl.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street in Kewaskum. Father Mark Jones and Father Elroy Pesch concelebrated and burial was at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends called on Wednesday at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
