Daniel A. Vandenberg, 63, of King, WI, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.
He was born on May 7, 1949 in Wauwatosa, WI and he grew up in West Bend. He attended St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Grade School and graduated from West Bend High School in 1967. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam where he was wounded and disabled and was awarded the Purple Heart. After returning from Vietnam, Dan settled in Germania, WI and he recently resided at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.
Dan was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He was also a volunteer in the Princeton School District for many years. He was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and he loved the outdoors, deer hunting, and his dogs.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey Vandenberg of West Bend; a brother, Bill (Jacalyn) Vandenberg of West Bend; four sisters, Barbara Vandenberg of West Bend, Holly (John) Borland of Kewaskum, Gayle Vandenberg of West Bend, and Jane (Mike) Gundrum of Plymouth; many special nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilmer Vandenberg, and an infant sister, Nancy.
A funeral service in remembrance of Dan will be held on Monday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. at the Myrhum - Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington St., West Bend. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial with military honors will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend, on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to a humane society of your choice or the Princeton Public Library.
