August 1, 1924 — January 11, 2006

Daniel J. Wickert, age 81, of West Bend, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at the Cedar Lake Health Care.

He was born on the family homestead farm in the town of West Bend on August 1, 1924 to the late Frederick and Ernestina (nee Hetzel) Wickert, and was united in marriage to Lois Guth on September 18, 1948 at Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church in West Bend.

Dan was employed at the West Bend Elevator Company for 35 years, and retired as president in 1986.

Dan and Lois spent their summers in Presque Isle, where Dan became an avid fisherman. They also enjoyed traveling to many states and European countries. He was known for his infectious smile and was a handyman to all who needed help. Former governor Warren Knowles once remarked that Dan "was a self-made man".

He was a faithful member of Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church, the Loyal Order of the Moose West Bend Lodge #1398, and a past member of the West Bend Noon Kiwanis Club and the Wisconsin Agriculture Service Association.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Lois; his loving daughter, Heather (Warren) Meyer; dear granddaughters, Angela (Jeffrey) Wissink and Allison (Charles) Klein; along with two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Mia Wissink; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services to celebrate Dan's life will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 11:30 am at Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church. Rev. Jean Bartlett will officiate and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will he held at the church only on Saturday from 10:30 until the time of service.

Memorials to Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church, Cedar Lake Health Care Center, or Cedar Community Hospice are appreciated.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Cedar Lake Health Care Center for the loving care extended to Dan.

Surely Jesus loves fishermen for He chose them for His own, to be with Him and learn from Him and someday share His home. It must have been their trust in God and patience He found rare, that keeps them very near His heart and ever in His care.
