Danny Stipanovic, age 79, of Mayville, passed away on Thursday, December 1st at the Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Danny was born on June 30, 1932 in Mayville to the late Peter and Donica Stipanovic. He attended and graduated from Mayville High School where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He was the captain of the varsity his sophomore year, and was the 9th highest in scoring in the little ten. In 1951 Danny entered the United States Air Force and served four years stationed in the arctic on a radar site where he helped build the D.E.W. Line (Defense Early Warning System). Upon his discharge Danny returned to Mayville. On September 8, 1956 he was united in marriage to Jeanette at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lomira.
Danny worked at Maysteel for 12 years before becoming the owner of Dan's Dugout for 9 years. He eventually sold Dan's Dugout and worked at Metalcraft of Mayville for 25 years before retiring.
In his free time Danny played city baseball for 12 years and was voted into the Rock River Hall of Fame in 2002. He also loved hunting, and fishing, especially Sturgeon spearing.
Danny was a member of the Bonau-Whereatt American Legion Post # 69 in Mayville for 50 years.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette; and his two sons, Mark (Jane) Stipanovic of Waupun and Jim (friend Rosie) Stipanovic of Butternut. He is further survived by two sisters, Annie Benzel of Mayville and Millie Chapman of Watertown; a brother-in-law Florian Belligan of Lancing, MI; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Donica; his sister, Donica Belligan, his brother, Nick Stipanovic, his sister-in-law, Ann Stipanovic; and his brothers-in-law, Duane Chapman and Carl Benzel.
A memorial service in honor of Danny will be held on Monday, December 5th at 2:00 pm at the Cottrill Funeral Home (15 S. Walnut St. Mayville) Deacon Willis Heideman will officiate and burial of Danny's cremated remains will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Mayville. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 pm until the time of service.
