Dolores “Dee” Cooke-Werner (nee Raddemann) of West Bend, formerly of Kewaskum, went to her eternal resting place on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk at the age of 95.
Dee was born on September 9, 1917, in Hartford, the daughter of the late Edward and Helen (nee Brose) Raddemann, and lived there until 1935 when she moved to West Bend.
In 1938 she was united in marriage to Charles Cooke, who was in the U.S. Air Force, and was killed in action over Germany in 1944, only having finished eight missions while serving his country in World War II. Together, they had one son, Richard.
In 1950, she married Gustav “ Clark” Werner, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend, later moving to Kewaskum, where they both resided until 2006, then moving to Park Place Condominiums in West Bend and in 2009 moving to Cedar Community Campus.
When Dee first moved to West Bend, she was employed at The Express Office, The Beacon Restaurant and the office of Dr. Frankow and Dr. Grundahl. After living in Kewaskum for a few years, she worked at Rosenheimer’s Department Store until she retired in 1984.
She was an avid bowler in the 50’s and 60’s in West Bend, her most enjoyable hobby. She also enjoyed playing cards, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and cooking and baking, especially for her grandchildren. Spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were most enjoyable to her. She also loved to get together with old friends.
Dee and Clark enjoyed spending time taking yearly vacations at the Eagle River and Minocqua area lakes, spending time with family and doing a lot of fishing. Dee loved to go pan fishing. When their son and daughter-in-law bought their home on North Twin Lake, they had many enjoyable times with family, friends, the neighbors and fishing.
Dee was a faithful member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum.
Those Dee leaves behind to cherish her memory include her son, Richard (Kay) Cooke of Spring Grove, Illinois; her daughter, Susan (Russ) Gavin of Slinger; four grandchildren, Rick Cooke of Naperville, Illinois, Michael (Debbie) Cooke of Spring Grove, Illinois, Pamela (Bryan) Anderson of Rosemont, Minnesota and Jonathan Gavin of Slinger; her great-grandchildren, Bradley Cooke, Cameron Cooke, Adam Hodgson, Colton Anderson and Samantha Anderson; two sister-in-law’s, Lois Raddemann of Hartford and Erna Werner of Tucson, Arizona, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Dee was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles V. Cooke and her second husband, Gustav” Clark” Werner; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Raddemann; her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Cooke and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Werner; three brothers, Wallace, Carlton and Edward Raddemann; two sisters, Hazel Burie-Dodish and Ruth Potter; her brothers-in-law, Walter Werner, William Werner, Earl Potter, John Burie, Nick Dodish and Art Buss; her sisters-in-law, Lillian Buss and Hedy Raddemann and her grandson, Timothy Cooke.
Funeral services for Dee were held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2012, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum. Rev. Troy Swenson officiated and burial was in Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.
