Dolores M. Kleinke, 80, of Kewaskum, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2007, at SynergyHealth St. Joseph’s Hospital in the town of Polk.
She was born on April 29, 1926, in New Fane, the daughter of the late Walter and Norma (Kumrow) Heberer, and on October 27, 1945, she was united in marriage, for 61 years, to Marvin Clarence Gustav Kleinke at St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane. Her husband preceded her in death on October 9, 2006.
Dolores attended Milwaukee Vocational School and Red Cross Nursing classes to complete studies as a nurse’s aide working various jobs, including Eagle Knitting of Milwaukee where she was known as “Sugar Plum” by co-workers. She also volunteered and worked at Milwaukee County Hospital until she married, moving to Kewaskum.
Dolores proudly served her community throughout her life as a nurse’s aide, working for St. Joseph’s Community Hospital and Washington County Nutritional Program while raising eight children. She was an active member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving in the choir and various organizations. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary – Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 in Kewaskum and was a charter member of the Kewaskum Historical Society, serving as the first woman president for the organization.
Dolores shared her musical gifts throughout her life, beginning as a teenager as organist and soloist for St. John Lutheran Church. Dolores was also known as a neighbor and friend to all, ready to reach out and open their home to anyone in need. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who knew her.
Survivors include eight children, Charles (Susan) Kleinke and Earl (Marie) Kleinke, both of Kewaskum, Cliff (Alice) Kleinke of Eau Claire, Edmond (Nancy) Kleinke of West Bend, Yvonne (Bruce) Schumacher of St. Paul, Minnesota, Annette Wienke of Milwaukee, Suzette (Val) Fischer of Dayton, Ohio and Claudette (Jim) Guell of Eden; three sisters-in-law, Gladys Van den Berg of Key Biscayne, Florida, Virginia Kleinke of Illinois and LaVerne Kleinke of West Bend; 23 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dolores was preceded in death by an infant sister; three brothers-in-law, Frederick “Fritz”, Wilbur (Marie) and Alphaeus Kleinke; and David Streich.
Funeral services for Dolores were held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2007 at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1417 Parkview Drive in Kewaskum. Rev. Timothy Henning officiated and burial followed in Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum.
Relatives and friends called on Friday at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services.
