Donald "Don" H. Kaehny

Donald “Don” Henry Kaehny, 78, of the city of Mayville, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Kathy Hospice in West Bend, Wisconsin, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 2, 1946, in the city of Hartford, Wisconsin to the late Robert J. and Kathryn (nee Lorenz) Kaehny.

Don graduated from West Bend High School in 1965. He went on to technical school for electronics. He worked as an electronic technician, specializing in TV repair with various companies throughout his career, including Looman & Hicken’s, Speed’s, and then Kettle Moraine Appliance.

He married Janice Vass on May 30, 1970, at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Parish in West Bend, Wisconsin. He was married to the love of his life for 54 years.

Don enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren, collecting and repairing antique radios, flying model airplanes, watching old-time westerns, and fishing.

He courageously battled MSA (Multiple System Atrophy) for the last ten years. He inspires all of us to see the joys in life, no matter the circumstances, and to fight through the toughest of obstacles without a complaint. His greatest happiness was spending time with his family during his final years. Don was able to remain at home during his ten-year battle due to the loving care of his wife Jan, who was his primary caregiver.

Those Don leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife Janice; two children, Lisa (Brian) Vorwerk and Jeffrey Kaehny; six grandchildren, Kathryn, Sarah, Jenna, and Emily Vorwerk, and Aiden and Anika Kaehny-Walz; four brothers, Jack (Kathy) Kaehny, Mike (Sandie) Kaehny, Bob Kaehny, David (Lisa) Kaehny of West Bend; sister, Pat (Rich) Schroeder of Oregon, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Judy Smith of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; many brothers and sisters-in-law; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Paul Kaehny.

VISITATION: The family will greet relatives and friends at St.Mary’s Catholic Church (302 S. German St. Mayville) Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.

SERVICE: A Mass of Christian Burial for Don will be held following the visitation at the Church at 12:30 p.m., with Rev. Ed Kornath officiating the service. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Bend.

The family would like to thank his home-care nurse Julie, the Outpatient and Wound Care Team at Froedtert West Bend Hospital, and the staff at Kathy Hospice for all of their wonderful care for Don.
