Donald L. "Don" Berger, 67, of Westfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2015, after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
He was born February 15, 1948 to Norbert and Dorothy Berger of Oakfield. Don began a long career in driving truck at the age of 18. He was the owner and operator of Berger Trucking. At the age of 20, he owned two milk trucks picking up milk from local farmers belonging to the NFO (National Farmers Organization). He drove gravel trucks for G&L Excavating. He then bought his own semi-tractor and trailer “Berger Trucking” beginning his travels in the southern states, and then traveling the west coast every week until he retired in January 2014 hauling for Badger State. Don had bought his dream home on Lawrence Lake in Westfield where he enjoyed fishing and the company of many friends. Don enjoyed gambling in Las Vegas and the local casinos. He also enjoyed hunting, trapshooting, NASCAR, the Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. He did not hesitate to help those in need. He lived his life the way he wanted to.
Those Don leaves behind to cherish his memory include his mother, Dorothy; a brother, Edward (Sandy) Berger; a niece, Renee (Steve) Schuster; a nephew, Mark (Tammy) Berger and his dog “Bandit” all of Oakfield; a Godmother, Jeanette Seering of Beaver Dam, cousins and many friends from all over the state and beyond.
Don was preceded in death by his father Norbert; paternal and maternal grandparents; four uncles Arthur Kragel, Louis “Bud” Kragel, Robert Kragel and Bill Seering and his beloved travel companion “Corky”.
Memorial services for Donald will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira with Pastor Jim Droste officiating.
Donald's family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
