Dorothy M. Freehauf, (nee Bergin), age 79, of West Bend, passed away Wednesday April 30, 2008 at Cedar Lake Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on October 23, 1928 in Columbus to the late John and Cornelia (nee Egerer) Bergin. Her family moved to Milwaukee, where Dorothy was raised. In 1946 her family moved to Jackson. It was in Jackson that she met her future husband, and on December 26, 1953 Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald A. Freehauf at Holy Angels Rectory in West Bend. Together they made their home in Hartford.
Before her marriage to Don, Dorothy was the Washington County Deputy County Clerk, and afterward worked as the office manager in Donald's company, Freehauf Implement of Hartford. After retirement in 1989, they moved to West Bend.
Dorothy was a member of the Hartford Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She was also an active bridge player, and enjoyed reading. In her free time she loved being with her family, and making them and others many different things. Her talents included knitting, needlepoint, cross-stitch, painting, cooking, baking and was an excellent seamstress.
She is survived by her husband, Don; two children, Debra (James) Schellinger of Jackson, and Donald P. (Joan) Freehauf of West Bend; four grandchildren, Jennifer Schellinger of Neenah, Daniel Schellinger of Jackson, Jacob Freehauf of West Bend, and Jordan Freehauf of West Bend; two sisters, Virginia (Walter) Kratz of Middleton, and Joan (William) Grote of Hoffman Estates, IL; a brother, John (Vesta) Bergin of Boise, ID; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Davis of Visalia, CA, and Doris Freehauf of Rockford, IL; two brothers-in-law, William (Florence) Lehmann of West Bend, and Fred Freehauf of Jackson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Bergin, and a brother, Robert Bergin.
Memorial services in remembrance of Dorothy will be held on Sunday May 4th at 4:00 pm at the Myrhum ~ Patten Funeral Home, West Bend. Rev. Jerry Brittain of Holy Angels Catholic Church will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until the time of service. Memorials may be given in Dorothy's name to the charity of your choice. Cremation took place at Myrhum ~ Patten Funeral & Cremation Service, and burial of her cremated remains will be in Washington County Memorial Park.
