Dr. William Hausmann IV, age 77, a lifelong resident of West Bend, and dentist for 43 years passed away Wednesday May 12, 2005 at his residence.
He was born on June 18, 1927 to the late William Hausmann III and Mabel (nee Schlegel). He attended West Bend Public Schools and graduated from West Bend High School in 1945. After serving in the U.S. Navy in China after WWII, he returned to the West Bend area and entered Marquette Dental School, where he graduated in 1953. Bill was united in marriage to Priscilla Wright in West Bend on October 30, 1954, and last October they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Bill continued a dental practice that began in 1901 by his grandfather, extending a Hausmann family tradition of providing medical and dental care to the Washington county area since the mid-1800's. Bill was a member and past president of the Washington-Ozaukee County Dental Society, the American Dental Society, and a member of the Peer Review Committee of the State Dental Society.
Active in the community, Bill was recently recognized by the West Bend Community Memorial Library and the city of West Bend for his 49 years of service on the library board. As a West Bend Rotary member he received their highest award, the Paul Harris Fellow Award in November of 1999. He was also active as a vestry member at St. James Episcopal Church.
Bill was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, and a supporter of the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and spending time at the family northwoods cabin.
He is survived by his wife Priscilla; three children, W. Dirk (Terry) Hausmann of Cedarburg, Ann (Bruce) Nerland of St. Paul, MN, and Todd (Lori) Hausmann of St Paul MN; Seven grandchildren; Will, Maggie, Elizabeth, Margretta, Paul, Hanna and Leah; a sister-in-law Joan (Dr. Robert) McIntoch of Gainesville, FL; other relatives and many friends.
Memorial services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church (148 N. Eighth Ave. West Bend) on Tuesday, May 17th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be on Monday, May 16th at St. James Episcopal Church from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm and on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of mass. Private family committal will be held in Washington County Memorial Park.
