Edward J. Hawig

Edward J. Hawig, 93, of the town of Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Cedar Lake Health Care Center in the town of West Bend.


He was born in the town of Wayne, the son of the late Jacob and Rose (Bingen) Hawig, and on September 12, 1939, he was united in marriage to Catherine Felix at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian.



Edward was a 1934 graduate of Kewaskum High School and farmed in the town of Wayne for many years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Edward will fondly be remembered for his creative woodworking projects and his love of sharing the items he made. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and sharing his produce with family and friends. Edward loved his family and will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.


Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Catherine; five children, RoseMary (Ray) Ruplinger and Patricia Hawig both of the town of Wayne, Kathleen (Karl) Kannenberg of West Bend, Gerald Hawig and Jim (Kathy) Hawig both of the town of Wayne; a sister, Norma Wietor of West Bend; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Hawig of West Bend and Mildred Hawig of Newburg; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Sarah Ruplinger; two brothers, Wilmer and Albert Hawig; three sisters, Sally (Herb) Weske, Margaret Hawig and Viola Hawig and a brother-in-law, Leo Wietor.


A Mass of Christian Burial for Edward was held on Friday, May 16, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church, N9003 Townline Road, Kewaskum (town of Wayne), following a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum. Father Edwin Kornath, Father Mark Jones and Father Elroy Pesch O.F.M. Cap. concelebrated and burial was at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery.


Relatives and friends called on Friday at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the 6:30 p.m. prayer service.
