Edward J. "Ed" Miller, 75, of Kewaskum, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.
He was born on March 27, 1938, in Kewaskum, the son of the late Edward E. "Pat" and Mary "Mae" (Little) Miller, and on August 10, 1963, he was united in marriage to Sharron Babcock at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Neenah.
Ed was a funeral home director for Miller Funeral Home and later in 1985 he became the owner and manager of Miller's Furniture Store in Kewaskum. He was a life-long, faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum where he served as a lector and communion minister. Ed was a member of the Kewaskum Fire Department retiring after 32 years of service, attaining the rank Captain and was awarded the Fireman of the Year award in 1992. He was a member of Hon-E-Kor Country Club in Kewaskum.
Ed enjoyed annual vacations with his family at Lofty Pines, deer hunting outings up north with his hunting buddies, fishing and playing golf. He will fondly be remembered as an avid Green Bay Packer fan and for the pride he took in caring for his yard. Ed will be deeply missed by his wife, his family, his neighbors and by all who knew him.
Those Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Sharron; four children, Patrick (Wendy) Miller of Germantown, Doug (Susan) Miller of Lake Zurich, Ken (Terry) Miller of Missoula, Montana and Cheryl (Derek) Peterson of the town of Wayne; 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron, Jessica, Theresa, Catherine, Alex, Andrew, Lily and Maizy Miller, Cade and Anna Peterson; a brother, Theodore (Patricia) Miller of Kewaskum; three sisters, Mary Ellen (John) McElhatton, Isabelle (Hugo) Straub and Clare (William C.) Lehmann all of Kewaskum; two brothers-in-law, Paul Dean of Kewaskum and James (Linda) Babcock of Brookfield, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his canine friend, Buddy.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by two sisters, Sr. Donna Miller O.S.F. and Joan Dean; two brothers, Robert and David Miller and his stepmothers, Virginia Miller and Lucina "Lu" Miller.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ed was held on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Kewaskum, following a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum. Father Edwin Kornath officiated and burial followed in the parish cemetery.
The Miller family received relatives and friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. where a prayer vigil was held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continued at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. prayer service. The Kewaskum Fire Department had an honorary walk through on Wednesday at the funeral home at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Kewaskum Fire Department or Kewaskum Youth Scholarship Fund (KEYS) were appreciated.
