Elaine V. Britton

Elaine V. Britton (nee Menzel) peacefully passed away on 3/29/20, at Kathy Hospice. Elaine was born on 3/9/1922, to Albert and Myrtle Menzel, and was and raised in Hartford, Wi. She graduated from Hartford High School and attended UW-Madison, prior to marrying and raising her family in West Bend. Elaine volunteered at St Josephs Hospital, where, back in the day, she wrote out all of the patients’ hospital bills by hand.  She worked at Green Tree Elementary School for 18 years, in the library and writing attendance reports. After retiring, she traveled the world.  Elaine belonged to the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to Bridge and Sheepshead clubs over the years. Elaine also loved to stay in touch by talking on the phone. Her family and friends will always remember their phone calls from Elaine.

Elaine loved her family and will always be missed by her children, Sandra Olson, Ronald Crabb (Nancy), James Britton (Mary Kay) and daughter in law, Linda Britton. Her grandchildren include Barbara Britton Lynch (Scott Lynch), Wendy Crabb (David Watson), Bruce Britton (Amber), Richard Crabb (Adrienne Norton), Joel Crabb (Rachel) and Maia Peterson (Cole).   Elaine's 9 great grandchildren include Clive and Axel Watson, Sophie Britton, Aaron and Annika Crabb, Daniel and Alistair Crabb and Stella and David Peterson. Elaine is also survived by her sister in law, Gloria Menzel, niece, Cynthia Thull and nephews, Randy and John Menzel. Those who passed away before her include her first husband, Richard Crabb, her second husband, Edgar James Britton, her brother, Robert Menzel and her son in law, David Olson.

Elaine’s family wants to express our deepest gratitude to Dr. Gary Herdrich, the staff at West Bend Clinic and the staff at Kathy Hospice for all of the individual attention, care and kindness given to Elaine, and to the family, as well.

The family will be having a private memorial at a later date.
