Elizabeth Ida Techtman

July 24, 1921 — November 30, 2019

Elizabeth Ida “Betty” Techtman (nee Bushman), age 98, of West Bend, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Cedar Bay West in the town of West Bend.

Betty was born to the late John and Elsa (nee Abraham) Bushman in Detroit, MI.  She was baptized soon after at Hope Lutheran Church.  Two years later the family moved to Marysville, OH.  In 1927 the family moved to Oshkosh, WI.  Betty was confirmed April 5, 1935 at Peace Lutheran Church.  In 1936 the family moved to Pemberville, OH where they lived with her paternal grandmother.  Betty moved to West Bend after graduation from high school in 1939 joining her family who had moved to West Bend a year earlier.  There she met her husband Harvey Techtman.  They were married at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church on April 9, 1944.

After being with her husband who was in the armed services at Cheyenne, WY and Ft. Robinson, NE for about a year and a half, they came to Kewaskum, WI where a daughter Kay was born.  They moved to Hilbert, WI in 1946 where three more children, Jerome, James, and Beth were born.  In 1956 they moved to West Bend, WI where their son Carl was born.

While in West Bend, Betty worked with the Lutheran Rangerettes at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church for many years.  She served as a leader and member of the local Rangerette Council and on the National Council in Milwaukee, WI.

In 1979, Betty and Harvey moved to Mesa, AZ where they spent the winter months while continuing to live in West Bend during the summer months.  While in Mesa, they belonged to Eternal Life Lutheran Church where Betty was a volunteer and served as the church librarian.

Betty is survived by her children, Kay Kelch, Jerry (Annette) Techtman, and Beth (Jim) Vreim.  She is further survived by 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Bushman; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; two sons, James and Carl; and a son in law, B.J. Kelch.

In honor of Betty’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.  Burial of Betty’s cremated remains will be in Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend.
