Ella M. Weddig, 92, of West Bend, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2009, at Beechwood Rest Home in Beechwood.
She was born on April 26, 1917, in Campbellsport, the daughter of the late John and Celia (Hicken) Feuerhammer, and on April 15, 1940, she was united in marriage to Arthur Weddig in Dubuque, Iowa. Arthur preceded Ella in death on March 6, 1994.
During her years of employment, Ella worked at Pick Industries in West Bend during World War II, at the West Bend Company for 14 ½ years and at Allcast, Inc. in Allenton for several years. Ella taught Sunday school at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend for several years. Later she moved to Allenton and became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in the town of Wayne, where she was actively involved teaching and helping with bible school until 2005 and helping with the YPS.
Ella was a member of the West Bend V.F.W. Post 1393 Auxiliary for 63 years, where she served in many offices, including as president, chaplain, conductress, color bearer, color bearer and flag bearer for Sixth District and VAVS chairman for First and Sixth District. She also served as a page at one of the department conventions.
Ella was also a 43-year member of the Fohl-Martin American Legion Post 483 Allenton Auxiliary, where she served in the capacity of president for two years and four terms as county chaplain.
She enjoyed helping others in many ways including making stuffed animals for four rescue squads, volunteering at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend and at Peace Church in Hartford. She was also a member of the Hartford Senior Citizens.
Those Ella leaves behind to cherish her memories include four children, Kenneth (Carol) Weddig of Kewaskum, Donald (Frances) Weddig of Appleton, Nancy (Gary) Burns of Appleton and Debbie Greuel (special friend, Randy) of Iron Ridge, a brother, Alvin Feuerhammer of Fond du Lac, two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Jansen and Lillian Kuester both of West Bend, 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ella was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jeff Greuel, a sister, three brothers, nine brothers-in-law and eight sisters-in-law.
Funeral services for Ella were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church, 6430 Hwy. D, Allenton. Rev. Steven D. Bode officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.
