Eugene C. Heberer, 79, of West Bend, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Kathy Hospice after a seven-month battle with cancer.
He was born on September 13, 1927 in Milwaukee to the late George and Violet (nee Kruse) Heberer. On September 12, 1953 he was united in marriage to Joyce Knie at Cross Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.
Gene served our country in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army. He was a City of Milwaukee police officer for 34 years, retiring in 1984. He was an active member of Covenant Lutheran Church in Milwaukee for many years. After moving to West Bend in 1991 he became an active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in West Bend.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two children, Beth (Bruce Johns) Cruz of Sheboygan, and Greg (Jean) Heberer of Cedarburg; four grandchildren, Amanda Cruz, Alan Cruz, Stephen Heberer and Jamie Heberer; a brother, Wayne (Joan) Heberer of Sussex, two sisters-in-law, Audrey Heberer of Waukesha, and Kathleen (Tom) Moerman of Lakewood; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Heberer and Calvin Heberer.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 462 Meadowbrook Drive, West Bend. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service and a reception will follow the service. Following cremation inurnment will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
