Evalyn L. Rauen, nee Hagner, age 86, of West Bend, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Samaritan Health Center.
She was born on February 22, 1927 in West Bend to the late Hugo Hagner and Amanda (nee Techtmann) Hagner Falk. Evalyn's father died on July 18, 1930. He was the first death at St. Joseph's Community Hospital. Her mother preceded her in death on July 19, 1945.
Evalyn taught the kindergarten and the lower four grades at the Lutheran school in Hilbert during the 1948-49 school year. For the next four years, she taught various combinations of grades one through five at First Immanuel Lutheran School in Cedarburg. For the next 10 years she taught at St. John's Lutheran School in West Bend.
On May 16, 1962 Evalyn was united in marriage to James J. Rauen who was the Superintendent of Parks for the City of West Bend. On December 1, 1962, she and her new family became members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in West Bend.
In January of 1963, Evalyn began working at the First National Bank of West Bend, which later became M&I First National. After Jim retired, they moved to New Port Richey, FL where Evalyn again found work in a bank. After Jim suffered a debilitating stroke, they returned to West Bend and she returned to work at M&I First National Bank. Together they decided to move back to Florida where it was easier for Jim to move more freely. Evalyn returned to work at the Florida bank as an Assistant Branch Manager. They lived there until Jim passed away on October 1, 1982. In early 1983, Evalyn decided to return to West Bend and went back to work at M&I National Bank in the loan department where she continued until her retirement.
Evalyn was an avid reader. She spent her retirement years pursuing various areas of study and reading endlessly.
She is survived by her step-son, James (Delice) Rauen of Neenah; step-grandchildren, Aaron (Jody) Rauen, Andrea (Daniel) Grassl, Linda Parrish and Jody Burgess; step-great-grandchildren Tanner James Rauen, Reilly Laura Rauen, Garrett Grassl, Graham Grassl, and Luke Grassl;
Evalyn is further survived by nieces and nephews, Pastor Michael (Ruth) Enderle of Clear Lake, SD and their children, Rachel, Jason, and Micah; Margaret (Timothy) McDonald of Wauwatosa and their children, Daniel, Meaghan, and Jacob; John (Marguerite) Enderle of South Windsor, CT and their children, Jason, Alyssa, and Breana; and Pastor Phillip (Katherine) Enderle of Milwaukee and their children, Jonathan, Anna, Michael, and Sarah; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; step-daughter, Karen (John) Gray; step-father, Otto and his second wife, Alvina (Fietz) Falk; and her half-sister, Emily (Pastor George) Enderle.
Funeral services in remembrance of Evalyn will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 12:00 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church, 777 Indiana Avenue, West Bend. Revs. Robert Hein and John Paustian will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place on Monday, March 4th at 10:00 a.m. in Union Cemetery in West Bend.
Memorials to Fox Valley Lutheran High School are appreciated by the family.
