Evelyn E. Qualman

Evelyn E. Qualman, 92, of Lomira, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Hope Assisted Living in Lomira.

She was born on July 9, 1921, in Hustisford, the daughter of the late Fred and Martha (Kunz) Gerth, and she was confirmed on March 25, 1934, at Grace Lutheran Church in Hustisford.

Evelyn was a 1939 graduate of Hustisford High School, and following graduation from Dodge County Normal School in Mayville in 1941, she taught at a one-room school in Lebannon.

On October 21, 1944, she was united in marriage to Earl Qualman at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brownsville. Together they farmed in the town of Byron for 46 years. Earl preceded Evelyn in death on October 10, 2000.

During retirement, Evelyn enjoyed walking, gardening, spending time with her family and playing sheepshead at various senior centers. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brownsville.

Those Evelyn leaves behind to cherish her memory include three children, Joyce (Dennis) Beekman of LaCrosse, Janet (Daniel) Schmidt of Brownsville and Kenneth (Louise) Qualman of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Kurt) Wiersma, Michael (Danielle) Beekman, Thomas Schmidt, Kevin and Andrea Qualman; a great-granddaughter, Megan Wiersma; a sister, Nina Hannegan of Satellite Beach, Florida; two brothers, Gene (Elaine) Gerth of Hustisford and Fred (Darlene) Gerth of Bowman, North Dakota, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille (Don) Reynolds and Ella (Ferdy) Giese; a brother, Lyle (Louise) Gerth and a brother-in-law, Jack Hannegan.

Funeral services for Evelyn were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira. Rev. William Carter officiated and burial followed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Brownsville.

The Qualman family greeted relatives and friends at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the time of services.

Evelyn’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Hope Assisted Living and Agnesian Hospice for the compassionate and tender care provided to her.
