Florence M. Hefter

Florence M. Hefter, 84, of the town of Byron, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at her home.


She was born on April 6, 1925, in Barton, the daughter of the late Hubert and Alma (Staehler) Van Beek, and on May 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Hefter at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Barton.


Florence was a member of Sons of Zebedee St. John Catholic Church in the town of Byron.


She was a devoted wife and mother. Florence will fondly be remembered for the enjoyment she received playing cards, dancing to polka music and her love of flowers. She will be deeply missed by her husband, her family and by all who knew her.


Those Florence leaves behind to cherish her memories include her loving husband of 59 years, Kenneth; three children, Yvonne (Michael) Marrese of the town of Lomira, Lyle (Kathleen) Hefter and Randall (Catherine) Hefter both of the town of Byron; two sisters, Rosemary Fickert of West Bend and Agnes (Walter) Schwartz of the town of Addison; a sister-in-law, Carol VanBeek Brinkmann of Waupun; 11 grandchildren, Tina (Ken) Johnson, Angela (Mike) Esser, Dave (Misty) Stafford, Christine Prahl, Kimberly (Bradley) Fahrenkrug, Brenda Hefter, Robert Hefter, Craig (Kerstin) Hefter, Tim Hefter, Scott Hefter and Jeff Hefter; 12 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Anita, Seth, Tanner, Drake, Kiersten, Keali, Alexander, Kate, Gavin, Benjamin and Karleigh, other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert VanBeek; an infant grandson, Paul Hefter; an infant sister, Mildred and a brother-in-law, Wesley “Ferdie” Fickert.


A Mass of Christian Burial for Florence was held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at Sons of Zebedee St. John Catholic Church in the town of Byron. Father Michael Peterson officiated and entombment was at 10:00 a.m. on Monday in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.


Relatives and friends called on Sunday after 1:00 p.m. at the Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira, where a 3:30 p.m. prayer service was held prior to the procession to church for Mass.
