Florence B. Jansen, (nee Kurtz), age 87, of West Bend, was called home to her Lord on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend.
She was born on May 8, 1919 in West Bend to the late Herman and Frances (nee Unger) Kurtz. Florence graduated from the West Bend High School in the class of 1936. After her high school graduation, Florence worked as a telephone operator for the city of West Bend. She was united in marriage to Theodore "Ted" Jansen on August 30, 1941 at her parents' home in West Bend. Ted preceded her in death on January 28, 1998. After their marriage, Florence helped her husband on their farm in the Town of Scott. In 1950 they moved to Saukville where Florence worked for Door Electric Company in Cedarburg. In 1956 they moved from Saukville to the former Village of Barton. In 1963 she worked at the B.C. Ziegler Company in West Bend as a Secretary until her retirement in 1981. Her last home with her husband Ted was on Wildlife Dr. in Kewaskum where they became members of the XYZ Senior Club and the Barton Historical Society.
Florence was very active in her children's lives and served on the PTA when her children were young. Florence was a very devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend where she served for many years as a greeter, usher, communion assistant, Sunday school teacher, and as a member of the church's Dorcas Society. Even when Florence was living at the Samaritan she still made a point to go to church every Saturday night. She served as the unofficial greeter at the Samaritan. Florence touched many hearts and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Florence was the beloved mother of three daughters, Jayne (Marvin) Lasecke of Plymouth, Ellen (William) Macmillen Jr. of West Bend, and Joan (Norman) Zettler of Campbellsport; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister Dorothy (Clarence) Janz of Adell; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; their two infant sons, Mark and Kurt; two sisters, Clara Kurtz and Ruth Sauter; and a brother Reuben Kurtz.
A memorial service in celebration of Florence's life will be held on Friday, July 21, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend. Rev. David Schoob will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, at the church from 1:00 pm until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be greatly appreciated.
