Florian E. Jakubowski, 94, of Kewaskum, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Cedar Crossings in the town of Polk.
He was born on September 25, 1914, in Rietbrock, Wisconsin, the son of the late Stanislaus and Martha (Klawinski) Jakubowski, and on April 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Delores Beverly Nienow at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee. His wife preceded him in death on February 13, 1981.
Florian was a graduate of Athens High School in Athens, Wisconsin where he played in the school band and was a fine pole-vaulting athlete. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the violin. During his early years of employment, Florian worked as a logger in logging camps and later was employed by Wisconsin Electric Power Company in Milwaukee for 30 years. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 317 and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. He enjoyed playing cards with members of the XYZ Club in Kewaskum and Campbellsport Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his daughter, Dianne Fry of Kewaskum; two grandsons, Ian Fry and Brad Kriegel both of Kewaskum; a sister, Florence Jakubowski of Milwaukee, other relatives, friends and his loyal canine companions, Zeek, Bear and Boots and feline companion, Meow Meow.
In addition to his wife and parents, Florian was preceded in death by six brothers, John, Thomas, David, Frank, Walter and Tony Jakubowski and three sisters, Tillie Hildedrand, Marcella and Delores Jakubowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Florian will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street in Kewaskum. Father Edwin Kornath will officiate and burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday in Wisconsin Memorial Park, 13235 W. Capitol Drive in Brookfield.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
