On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Fred “Buzz” Berthlein passed peacefully at Froedtert West Bend Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on December 17, 1946, to Fred and Evelyn (nee Wennstrom) Berthlein, Buzz was their only son. He grew up in Chicago and worked as a Union printer with various companies, including Noral and Quad Graphics.
From early years on, Buzz spent his summers on Long Lake in Dundee, Wisconsin, just outside of Campbellsport. It was there where Buzz developed a great love of fishing and eventually retired to the area. He loved being able to spend his days on the boat, enjoying the serenity of the lake and taking it easy. He was a member of the Long Lake Fishing Club and made many friends and memories, he especially loved participating in tournaments with his son, Jeff.
Buzz was an avid sports fan, both watching and playing various sports, including being in bowling leagues for many years with both family and friends. Although some of his happiest sports moments were watching his two sons play football growing up, as well as coaching for a couple of years.
Buzz enlisted in the US Army in 1966 and was a proud veteran, having served in the Vietnam war, and was Honorably Discharged in 1969. He then went on to have three children: Pam Cychosz, Jeff (Mary) Berthlein, and Brandon (Katie) Berthlein. Buzz also leaves behind his three grandchildren, Brianna, Nicolas, and J.J.; special niece and Goddaughter, Sandy Pavlat; and all the friends he made along the way. Buzz was a great father, grandfather, and husband and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Those preceding Buzz in death include his wives, Donna (nee Ritter) and Donna (nee Fields); parents; and sisters, Bonnie Pierce, and Barbara Westerberg.
Though no formal services will be held, remember Buzz by going out fishing and spending time with your friends and family like he so enjoyed doing.
Memorials are appreciated in Buzz’s memory to the Long Lake Fishing Club in Dundee (http://www.longlakefishingclub.com/).
