Gary F. Gerhartz

February 10, 1941 — June 6, 2007

Gary F. Gerhartz, 66, of the town of Kewaskum, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at Villa Loretto Hospice in Mt. Calvary.


He was born on February 10, 1941, in Stockbridge, the son of the late Lewis and Ruby (Hostettler) Gerhartz. Gary attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and high school in Stockbridge, and was a 1964 graduate of U. W. Oshkosh. On August 8, 1964, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Hemauer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stockbridge.


In 1964, he began teaching music in the Kewaskum School District and retired in 2001 after 37 years of service. Gary was also employed for many years by the Department of Natural Resources during the summer. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum where he served as director of the traditional choir for many years. Gary was also a member of the Moraine Chorus, Ayer Ensemble, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Knights of Columbus Father Casper Rehrl Council 1964 West Bend, Habitat for Humanity, Fox Valley Mission to Nicaragua and a past member of Musical Masquers.


Gary enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, music, singing and ice cream. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.


Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; three sons, Daniel (Jennifer) Gerhartz of the town of Auburn, Steven (Sherry) Gerhartz and David (JoAnne) Gerhartz both of West Bend; six grandchildren, Nicolai, Anastasia, Aleksandr, Sophia, Abigail and Frederick Gerhartz; three brothers, Delmar (Ruth) Gerhartz and Marvin (Phyllis) Gerhartz both of Stockbridge and Lyle (Betty) Gerhartz of Darboy; four sisters, Lula Schoen of Stockbridge, Armella (Randy) Thiel of Chilton, Bernita (Robert) Perry and Donna (Jack) Comerford both of Fond du Lac, other relatives, colleagues and many friends.


In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald; a sister, Irmine (Donald) Denslow; an infant sister, Althea Gerhartz and a brother-in-law, Howard Schoen.


A Mass of Christian Burial for Gary was held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2007, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street, Kewaskum. Father Edwin Kornath and Father Elroy Pesch O.F.M. Cap officiated and cremation followed.


Relatives and friends called on Sunday at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services.
