Gayle R. Claus (nee Reuterdahl), 92, of West Bend died on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Pavilion of Glacier Valley in Slinger.
She was born on February 4, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of the late Norman and Margaret (nee Chaffee) Reuterdahl. Gayle attended the University of Minnesota. In 1948 she was united in marriage to Robert H. Claus at Hennepin Ave. Methodist Church in Minneapolis. Robert passed away in 2000. After their marriage the couple lived in Charlotte, NC, before coming to West Bend in 1950. They moved to the north woods near Tomahawk, WI in 1981, returning to West Bend in 1991.
Through the years, Gayle was involved in many community “causes” and “crusades.” She had an intense interest in civic and political affairs, and remained in the Republican Party from 1948 to 2008. She left the Republican Party in 2011. During the time she was active, Gayle held memberships in many charitable and political organizations. She was a member of the Kettle Moraine Bible Church in West Bend.
Those Gayle leaves behind to cherish her memory include her two sons, Richard J. Claus of Eau Claire and David L. (Gloria) Claus of North Fond du Lac; two grandchildren, Matthew Robert (Fiancée Alexandria) Claus of Oakfield and Kathryn Gayle (Bob) Dunkel of Madison. Further survived by two great-grandchildren, Christian Claus and Leo Claus; a sister, Nancy Noble (Dennis Hudson) of Santa Fe; two brothers-in-law, as well as other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A private graveside service in memory of Gayle will be held at Washington County Memorial Park.
It was Gayle’s request that in lieu of flowers or memorials, that prayers and kindness be extended to her family.
